Task 3- Work in your Specialism

For this task I have looked into jobs in my chosen specialism in the surrounding area of Exeter and a bit further afield, London.

To begin with I looked up jobs in and around Exeter for fashion and found jobs mainly in retail. There was a sales advisor job in River Island working between the hours of 12pm until 7pm. I have also come across sales assistant jobs in Karen Millen and House of Fraser. Two of these jobs are temporary for over the Christmas period so there were not many requirements. You would be expected to maintain a high standard of customer service and a self-motivated, happy personality. The River Island job had the same requirements but also specified it is important to have an interest and love for fashion. I found the jobs above at www.indeed.co.uk.

After looking locally I decided I would look into what jobs and internships were available in London seeing as it is one of the fashion capitals of the world. After looking on www.fashionunited.co.uk I found two internships which took my fancy and were more focused in the field I see myself working in. The first was a Sampling/Pattern Cutter internship for the company Lilliput and Felix, this job had many more requirements. It asks for a proven record of tailoring and pattern cutting for stretch fabric, access to your own equipment, extensive knowledge of garment construction, excellent organisational and communicational skills, attention to detail, interest in working with a start up company and finally, an interest in setting up your own fashion label from scratch.

The other Internship that took my fancy was a Fashion design internship in East London for the company ONETSHIRT. This job also had many requirements: You have to either be studying or have a degree in Fashion design or Graphic design, work experience in a fashion environment, knowledge or Adobe Creative Suite programs, deep knowledge of current trends in fashion and street wear, confident and original in their own work, self driven and the will to create outstanding designs.
